ICS status: Fully Functional
From 14 March 2014 there will be changes to Community Protection Questions enabling brokers to self-determine whether vehicles, air-conditioners, fridges and other goods are exempt from control under Customs (Prohibited Import) Regulation 5K and the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989.
The most common exemptions include goods which:
. are degassed and do not or cannot contain any substance
. contain a substance not listed in Schedule 10
. were owned for at least twelve months prior to import and are to be used principally for personal and domestic uses.
You must be able to produce documentary evidence on request to justify the decision. If goods are not exempt a permit must be obtained from Department of the Environment before the goods are imported otherwise items may be seized at the border.
